Time is flying and makers are coming in from all over. Our latest makers, The Hurley Young Maker Club are bringing rockets to our line up of exhibits! The Hurley Young Maker Club is a part of the Maker Faire education initiative. Through this initiative youths ages 8 through 18 have the opportunity to hone their potential skills as makers.
The Hurley Young Maker club is directed by Jeff Parker. They will bring a wide variety of projects they have been working on over the past few months. But one of their main attractions will be their hand made rockets. Created from just paper and tape these rockets have the potential to soar over tree tops! We look forward seeing these creation fly. If your interested in watching these rockets launch head over to our attend page. Tickets are on sale now!
We are excited to announce one of our first official makers! Jenni Glassford from the local community will be exhibiting her needle felting work at our Mini Maker Faire.
What is needle felting you ask? It’s a popular craft that makes wool into felt without the use of water. Needle felting artists utilize the same industrial barbed needles factories used to make sheets of felt. But instead of making sheets the artists use the needles to mold the wool into compacted felt shapes. These shapes are only limited by the creators imagination! Needle felting can be used to create anything from jewelry to sculptures. Glassford does her needle felting work in the form of teddy bears, unique animals and even in the likeness of pets.
We are excited to have Glassford join our line up of makers. Want to see more of Jenni Glassfords’s work? Check out her official flicker page. You can also see her work in person at the Poughkeepsie Mini Maker Faire on November 15.
Want to join Glassford as a Maker at our Faire? Go to our Call for Makers Page and apply. Applications are being accepted now through October 3rd.
